Vera Mae Shields Beede Deemer was born to John and Nettie Hodges Shields on September 26, 1921 near Ellston on Sandcreek. She never lived outside of Ringgold County. On May 4, 1945 she married Rex M. Beede and was a farmer’s wife for 31 years. To this union four sons were born Rex Eugene, Doyle, Jim and Kenneth. After Rex’s passing in 1976 she married Frank Deemer on April 30, 1986 at the Methodist Church.
Vera worked at Clearview Nursing Home for 3 years and the Ringgold County Hospital in dietary department for more than 5 years. After retiring she volunteered at the American Legion Auxiliary Post 172 and Clearview Nursing Home for many years. Vera was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 172 and the Kellerton Methodist Church in Kellerton. Vera loved to play 10-point pitch, crochet and raised a big garden for many years. Vera moved into the Clearview Estates in 2016 and made many new friends while there.
Vera passed away on June 11, 2020 at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Rex Beede and Frank Deemer; 1 great grandchild; 5 siblings and their spouses; 21 brothers-in law and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Rex Eugene (Gail), Doyle (Helen), Jim (Venus) and Kenneth (Jon); 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and one more soon to be born; and many other relatives and friends.
