Darlene Mae Bear, daughter of Floyd Orland & Nova Edna (Baker) Giles, was born August 20, 1938 in Union County, Iowa. Darlene graduated from Tingley High School in 1956.
On August 10, 1956, Darlene was united in marriage to Donald Gene Bear in the Lamoni United Methodist Church. Three children were born into this marriage: Jacqueline (Jacque) Sue, Daniel (Dan) Dean, and Jodi Lynn. Darlene stayed home and raised the children while Don served in the U.S. Air Force. They lived in various cities around the United States and also in Japan. After Don retired, they moved back to Ringgold County, Iowa. Darlene worked at LaVel's Dress Shop in Mount Ayr, VanGelder's Clothing in Creston, helped assemble fruit baskets at Hy-Vee and sold Home Interiors decor.
Darlene was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She loved collecting dolls, bears and anything she could decorate with. Other hobbies she enjoyed were attending the local doll club events/meetings, collecting jewelry, embroidery, reading, word search books, watching basketball, getting her hair and nails done, people watching, drinking coffee and eating out (cheeseburger and extra crispy fries).
Darlene became a resident at Maple Ridge Assisted Living on June 30, 2014 and a resident at Mount Ayr Health Care Center on January 25, 2016. She enjoyed being a part of and attending the activities/events at Maple Ridge Assisted Living and Mount Ayr Health Care Center
Darlene passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021 at Mount Ayr Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don; granddaughter Kimberly Bear; and brother LeRoy Giles.
Those left to cherish and share her memories include her sister Doris Jean Dufty of Colorado; 3 children: Jacque and husband Art Davis of Nebraska, Dan Bear of California, and Jodi Angus of Iowa; 10 grandchildren and spouses: Andy and wife Tonya Davis, Matt and wife Jessica Davis, Ben and wife Angela Davis, Amber and husband Rob Mitchell, Katie Bear, Kristy Bear, Kassidy Bear, Lucas and wife Amanda Angus, Jennifer and wife Amie Angus and Austin Angus; 8 (& counting) great-grandchildren: Logan Mitchell, Lewis Angus, Brooklyn Angus, Esme Angus, Cooper Davis, Jerod Angus, Kiara Angus and Gerron Angus; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Darlene was a one of a kind woman. She will forever be cherished, loved and remembered.
A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later.
