Wayne Bohn

Wayne Cecil Bohn was born November 11, 1925 in Riley Township, Ringgold County, near Lamoni, Iowa, to John Daniel Bohn and Elma Lydia Lou (Gilliland) Bohn. He attended country school in Ringgold County, Iowa.

On June 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Irene Marie Todd at the Diagonal Methodist Church parsonage. They first made their home in rural Diagonal and later in rural Kellerton where Wayne farmed. In 1956 they moved to Fort Madison, Iowa, where Wayne accepted a job as a prison guard at the Iowa State Penitentiary. Wayne worked there for almost 35 years. While they were living in Fort Madison Wayne and Irene would always welcome having family come to visit. They enjoyed being tour guides to the area attractions especially the lock and dam at Keokuk. Memorable trips included fishing the Mississippi River.

In July of 1992 they purchased a home in Mount Ayr to retire closer to family. Wayne always took great pride in maintaining their home, including the care of their yard and flowers. He was particular about the mowing even when he was no longer able to do it himself. Wayne and Irene had a special love for their pug dogs, Rocky and Muggs, and cared for them like they were their children.
Wayne joined Irene as a resident of Mt. Ayr Health Care Center in 2008 where he passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law, Janice Richman of Mercer, MO.; five nephews, David (Theresa) Richman, Steven (Carrie) Richman, Todd Richman, Byron (Charlotte) Gunsolley, Frank (Joan) Gunsolley; three nieces, Shelly (Chuck) Willis, Joy (Jim) Goins and Linda (Eldon) Starmer; special friend, Betty Hanie; many great-nieces and great-nephews. I have so many fond memories of Uncle Wayne during my childhood. Both Uncle Wayne and Aunt Irene were always kind and had a way of making you feel special. Throughout my memories of visits with my grandparents there were so many that involved Uncle Wayne and Aunt Irene.
