Vivian Jackson, 88, of Pleasant Hill, passed away January 2, 2019 at her home.
Vivian was born August 6, 1930 in Jones County, the youngest of six children to Clarence and Ada (Streeper) First. She graduated from high school and attended nurses training at the University of Iowa which she suspended to marry Herb Jackson in 1950. The couple farmed near Kellerton until 1987 where they raised their "best crop", six children. They then moved north of Tingley and, late in life, both obtained their 2-year Associates Degrees at Southwestern Community College in Creston where they were straight A students. In 1995, they moved to Pleasant Hill. Vivian worked as a secretary at Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement in Des Moines for many years until she retired. Vivian enjoyed her home, tweaking the décor, visits from her children and their families. She could be tough and no-nonsense, but also very loyal and loving. Herb benefited from her early nurses training and fierce devotion during times of accident and illness. They were both tested when their daughter, Shirley, passed away from cancer in 2005. Their love carried them through the trials and triumphs of life, providing examples to their children of what real love looks like.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Helen Bahnsen, Florence Luke, Mabel Anderson, Millard First, and Donald First; daughter Shirley Rae Jackson on July 27, 2005; and her husband Herb on January 11, 2013.
Those left to cherish her memory include children Nancy Brechler & husband Rick of Le Mars, IA, Dan Jackson & wife Hope of Kellerton, IA, Doug Jackson & wife Candi of Winterset, IA, LuAnn Jackson of Mount Ayr, IA, and Julie Sonksen & husband Andrew of Ft. Dodge, IA; 11 grandchildren Michael (Jessica) Brechler, Sam Sonksen, Stan (Katie) Stout, Matt (Casey) Stout, Jennifer (Tim) Creveling, Sara (Jesse) Anthony, Kim Brechler, Amelia Jackson, Katherine Jackson, Abbie (Joseph) Williams, Sara (Adam) Shaull; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with burial to follow in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton, IA. Aunt Vivian was the last of my aunts from both sides of the family. I wish to extend my blessings to the family. My wife and I will be unable to attend the services because of age.

Deep sympathy to the family of Herb and Vivian Jackson. We have been Pleasant Hill neighbors for many years. Herb always on the bike trail along our property line, stopping to visit and taking photos. When Vivian and Herb wanted to get rid of their crooked willow tree, I wanted those interesting branches. They asked what I wanted them for. At the time I didn't know yet. Eventually I decided to stain the barrels full of branches and build a nest like canopy over my canopy on the upper deck. With solar lights it was a great reminder of the Jackson's and their love for nature and Pleasant Hill. May God give you all his perfect peace.

Oh! A correction - My Dad, Uncle Don, passed away Oct 1 of 2003, not 2009. Sorry about that

To my dear cousins - Nancy, Danny, Doug, Louann, and Julie - My condolences at the passing of your mom, my very last Aunt. I believe she may have lived to be the oldest of all her siblings....? My dad was 85 and passed in 2009. What a legacy come to an end, but for all of you and your families, it lives on in you. Cherish these days of reminicsing and feeling the closeness of your memories and experiences that are unique to your family, and the comfort of knowing your parents are together again, and have thier oldest daughter with them as well - just like how it all began. Love you all! Cousin Jorja

We are sorry to learn of Vivian's death. We look forward to seeing her alive again in the resurrection. Jesus promised, "Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out to a resurrection." John 5:28, 29
