Tim Irving

Timothy Alan “Tim” Irving, son of David Julian & Darlene (Dulany) Irving, was born on Saturday, November 11, 1950, in Creston, Iowa. Tim grew up in Mount Ayr in the section of town known as “Dog Town.” Tim followed his big brother, Pat, around as the neighborhood kids played and had fun together.

Tim excelled in sports, and he lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball. His favorite sports were football and track. Tim graduated from Mount Ayr High School with the class of 1969. Tim went onto Simpson College with scholarships in football and baseball. He played slot back on the Simpson football team that played in the Mineral Water Bowl in Excelsior Springs, MO on November 29, 1969. The Mount Ayr Lions Club honored him with the Tim Irving Day at Simpson College.

Following graduation, Tim joined his father, David, in the Clothing business. Tim enjoyed a prosperous career as a clothier as they opened an additional store in Osceola, IA. After Irving Clothing closed in 1990, Tim was a traveling retail consultant for G.A. Wright Corporation helping various small businesses with different aspects of their business. In 2002, Tim began yet another successful career as a sales representative in the R.V. business. Tim retired in 2015 and returned to his hometown of Mount Ayr to enjoy life and help care for his mother. The years in Mount Ayr enabled Tim to enjoy the company of best friend Dick Elliott as they went to car races spurring on Dick’s son Dennis. Tim loved to go to Kansas City Royal’s baseball games with Dick Elliott, Steve Mitchell and Ted Smith. Tim attended Hawkeye football games with Pat & Ame and enjoyed spending time with his nieces & nephews. In November 2020, Tim moved to West Des Moines where he was closer to sisters Vicki & Jean and their kids & grandkids.

Tim passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 21, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, David & Darlene Irving and sister-in-law Nancy Irving.

Tim is survived by his daughter, Ashley Erin (Tim) Harles and four grandchildren Arianna, Jordyn, Makennah, and Brody; brother Dr. Patrick G. (Ame) Irving; sisters Vicki Westerly and Jean (Dick) Sulentic; many nieces & nephews, great nieces & great nephews; other relatives and many good friends.

Per Tim’s wishes, cremation has occurred and a private graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 31 in Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Alzheimer’s Association. Armstrong Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
