Sandra Kay Wilson

Sandra Kay (Shields) Wilson, was born May 21,1942 in Ringgold, Iowa, to John and Anabel (Motsinger) Shields. She married Duane Hontz and they had two children, Brenda and Randy. They spent many years in Omaha, Nebraska. During those years Sandy spent time as a cook and bookkeeper for Leizure Lanes Restraunt and Motel.

She later married Paul Wilson and they spent many years living between Omaha, Nebraska and Phoenix, Arizona. Sandy loved children, so she babysat numerous children in her home thru the years. She then decided to go back to school and get her GED and took business courses. Upon completion of those courses Sandy began working for Midwest Child Care Referral Association as Administrative Assistant. She loved her job there and worked for many years helping to place children in a childcare home among other chores. Sandy was very involved with the church.  She served as a Sunday school teacher and treasurer for the church until she was no longer able to get to work or attend services due to an injury she obtained at work. After her injury she was unable to continue with her employment at Midwest Childcare Referral Association.

Her following days were spent at her home in Council Bluffs until she moved to Clearview Home in Mount Ayr in August of 2019.   Surrounded by her family and friends she went to meet her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2020 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents John and Anabel; husband Paul; younger brother Billy; and all family and friends who went before her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brenda (Mickie) Atkins of Mount Ayr and Randy Hontz of Council Bluffs; one brother Fred (Mary) Shields of Mount Ayr; five grandchildren Dana (Matthew) Sullivan of Talbott, Tennessee, Scott (Wendy) Mathis of Lamoni, Ashley Broadwater Ponca City, Oklahoma, Stephenie Smart of Leon, Shawn Smart of Ponca City, Oklahoma; 17 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.

At Sandy's request there will be no funeral services. We will instead have a celebration of life party when the weather clears up, so it will be safe for all wanting to attend. We will laugh and joke and tell Sandy stories, share pictures of Sandy's life, and will enjoy a delicious potluck meal. We will announce the date, time, and place when we are certain of the location. Also, per her wishes, she was cremated and will have the ashes buried in the spring at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. We hope you all will be able to attend.

If Rose's grow in heaven,

Lord pick a bunch for me,

Place them in my mother’s arms,

And please tell her they're from me.

Tell her I love and miss her,

And when she turns to smile,

Place a kiss upon her cheek,

And hold her for a while.

'Cause remembering her is easy,

I do it every day,

But there's an ache within my heart,

That just won’t go away.
