Richard Scott

Richard Dale Scott, son of Noel and Georgia (Marrifield) Scott, was born November 24, 1935 at Jameson, MO. In 1949, he was promoted from the 8th grade at Jameson Community School.

Dick was born with Muscular Dystrophy, but he did not let that effect his life. He overcame the obstacles with determination and grace and there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t accomplish. Dick worked as a farm hand and at a saw mill and a filling station. In his later years, Dick did lawn service work and was a gifted craftsman with woodworking. He made lots of furniture and other items. Dick was known to do his own sewing, he would modify his shoes to help with his walking, and he could make “something out of nothing.”

On January 28, 1965, Dick married Oleeta Mae Scott at Gallatin, MO. They lived in Maysville, MO for 19 years before moving to Mount Ayr in 2005. Oleeta passed away on August 9, 2015.

Dick liked his black & white cowboy movies on tv. He attended the Mount Ayr Senior Center; enjoyed playing bingo; and on Sunday’s, he enjoyed breakfast at the legion followed by church at the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church.

Richard passed away on January 6, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Oleeta; and several siblings.

Survivors include daughter Ina (Butch) Chapin of Redding, IA; granddaughters Della (Bryan) Pendegraft and Beth (Gary) Roder; great grandchildren Billy (Carrie) Egly and Drew (Chalsea) Roder; great great grandchildren Desirea (Ryan) Brewer and Amber, Gavin and Adrienne Egly and Gracie and Jeneva Roder; sister Shirley Gwinn of Bethany, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I will miss Richard very much. We met at the Senior Center & he was always witty & smiling. I am usually the Bingo caller & he, along with othersplayed. I called him our sound effects man--because he would groan or sigh whenever he did not have his numbers called. He was a gentleman & very well thought of. Rest In Peace, dear friend & we will see you there.
