My memories of Charles Hawkins date back a ways: to the 1950s and 1960s, when he pastored Prairie Flower Baptist Church north of Washington Iowa. I would attend with my grandparents, Nina May and Earl Smith. In attendance were other relatives, my great aunt and uncle, Orvie & Nell Scott, and Cousin Bob Scott. It was primarily a farmer's church. There was no air conditioning. Ladies kept the air moving with their fans. The open windows admitted the wonderful smells of the earth. Pastor Hawkins services were the best I ever attended in my life. He carefully crafted each sermon to teach lessons in living from the Bible. Even though I was a child at the time, they always engaged me. And the music! That church had the best four-part harmony singing (all to a piano) that I've ever heard. Calculating back, Charles was quite young then, in his twenties, to have led an old church like that so successfully. My grandparents just loved him. To the family I extend my deepest sympathy for your loss of this wonderful man.

My mind is running flag backs to when as a junior boy we would ride to camp in the old Model A. I truly treasure the time Pastor Hawkins was my families pastor. You all have a very special place in my families heart and life. Heaven is sweeter. Praying for comfort for the family. Tim
