Pat Straight

Patricia Ruth (Corll) Straight was born to Charlie and Margaret (George) Corll in Decatur County, Iowa on June 4, 1933. She was welcomed home by sister Mary.

From the time Pat was big enough, Mary had her on a horse. This remained a life long passion. They also raised and competed coon hounds. Pat continued to raise dogs & horses until her health wouldn’t let her do it anymore. She loved all animals, plants, and all of nature: except for snakes!

Pat married Monte Straight and to this union they were blessed with Danny, Jerry, Debbie, and Randie Straight.

Pat enjoyed being a military wife and traveling to Germany and France where Jerry and Debbie were born. She traveled back to Washington State on a ship by herself with the three youngsters in tow. The two toddlers, only being 11 months apart, were put into harness & leash, so she wouldn’t lose them. The family later moved to Kellerton, Iowa and welcomed Randie to the home. Pat worked with her sister Mary, and nephew Rodnie, at Kelley’s Kennels in the breeder/broker business until the three older siblings were grown. The remainder of her working career was caring for people at the Ringgold County Hospital, Ringgold County Public Health, and after retirement, she continued to do in-home care for the elderly.

In 1968, Pat met Chet Waller and welcomed his children, Barbara, Michael, Theresa, and Susan to the family. This brought lots of love and fun times, especially at the farm. They always made Christmas Eve a special event where the entire family came together under one roof. This gathering became even greater with the joy of grandkids. Chet passed away in 1998.

Pat has spent the last 18 years of her life with Richard O’Dell, who loved and cared for her like she’d never known. They enjoyed trips out west to many states and seen things she had only dreamed about.

Pat passed away March 22, 2019 at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center where she touched many lives in her short stay there.

Preceding her in rest are her parents; son Jerry Straight; spouse Chet Waller; sister Mary & brother-in-law Wayne Kelley; niece Gloria Kelley; grandson Zachary Becker; and great granddaughter Raija Straight.

Left to carry on her memory are Richard O’Dell; children Danny (Pam) Straight, Debbie (Terry) Munyon, Randie (Dave) Ross, Barbara Waller, Michael Waller, Theresa (Dave) Pearce, and Susan (Joe) Becker; grandchildren Heath Straight, Toni Straight, P.J. West, Micki (Josh) Daniels, Matthew Munyon, Brandon Pearce, Tyler Becker, Megan Pearce, Waylon Hill & Sierra, and Cassidy Becker; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; nephew Rodnie Kelley; and many friends through the years.

A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later.
