Norma Weehler

Norma Sara Bickel Weehler was born at home in Sherman County, Nebraska to Henry and Katherine Sheehan Bickel on June 1, 1920. She died at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, IA on December 20, 2012.
Norma attended the Bickel School in Nebraska for the first eight years of her education, then graduated from Litchfield, Nebraska High School in 1937. She attended Kearney State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate and then taught for three years in rural Nebraska schools.
In 1940, Norma married Lee Weehler and they established their first home in Ogallala, Nebraska. In 1941, they moved to Blockton, Iowa and started farming. Later they moved to the Clearfield and Benton area.

She was a member of the Mt. Ayr Baptist Church Missionary Society and charge of funeral dinners there for a number of years.
Norma is survived by her four children Richard (Joyce) Weehler of Maloy, Robert (Kim) Weehler of Mt. Ayr, Debra Weehler (Deb Smith) and Diane Weehler all of Des Moines; grandchildren Becky Heilman, Randy Weehler, Neil Weehler, Danyale Boardman, Sommer Jones, Colton Weehler, and Drew Weehler-Smith; 12 great grandchildren; a sister Blanche Bickel of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Doris Poteet of Council Bluffs, IA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lee; daughter Janet Kay Weehler; siblings Fredrick Bickel, William Bickel, Frances Shuman, Ruth Davis, Ruby O'Connor, Katherine Weist, Floyd Bickel, and Erma Wentz.

Aunt Norma was one of those people, that you loved to be with. She always made you feel so welcome. Fond memories of her sitting there quilting, and Uncle Lee with his bowl of popcorn. They were both special to us, and she will be missed.
