Michael Zarr

Michael David Zarr was born September 15, 1955, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa to Walter and Marlene (Giles) Zarr. He was later joined by sister Mindy and brother Max. Mike passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, at the age of 66.

Michael graduated from Mount Ayr Community High School in 1973. After being a member of two mission trips-one to remote Brazil long the Amazon and the other to Jamaica-he decided to attend Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas and graduated in 1985. Mike returned to Iowa after the death of his father and began refinishing furniture and selling his “treasures” at flea markets. Bowling was another passion of Michaels. He bowled with several teams and also coached the Mount Ayr High School teams until his health issues became more problematic. He also enjoyed attending all the school’s sporting events—that was his “social” time!

Michael was preceded in death by his parents Walter & Marlene Zarr, and special friend Candi Campbell.

Those that survive him are his daughter Laura Rose Campbell; sister Mindy (Marty) Lesan; brother Max (Rhonda) Zarr; nephew Reggie Lesan and children Sawyer and Shelby; niece Rachael Lesan and Russell Boles and children Isaac and Owen Boyer; nephew Casey Zarr and fiancé Savannah Domeyer; uncle Larry (Karon) Giles; aunt Sharyn (John) Betof; Candi’s extended family and many cousins and close family friends.

A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.

Mindy, Max, Laura and the rest of the Giles family, I was so sorry to hear about Mike! We were both part of our 10 member Tingley kindergarten class and we graduated together. Many memories!! And later, it was always nice to run into him and reminisce. Will not be able to be at the funeral, but will be there in thought and in prayer. Dianne Johnson Miller

Mindy & Max, I'm So Sorry I won't be able to be with you all today, but wanted you to know you're in my thoughts & prayers. I have to see the Orthopedic Surgeon today in Des Moines. I attended cards yesterday & enjoyed all the nice things everyone shared about Mike & what a great card player 8 friend he was. I tried to reschedule but they couldn't. I'm So Sorry for the loss of your brother & the difficult days ahead.

Thank you Mike for all the good you gave mountain but you gave mount air and and enjoy work with the younger people at school. I enjoyed our chats on the phone and appreciated all the support that you gave Candi and Laura Rose. I am grateful for your life.
