Kathryn R. Chartrand

Kathryn Ruth (Faust) Chartrand was born December 22, 1927 to Ruth Louise (Linn) Faust and John Edward Faust in Winterset, Iowa. She was the baby of the family joining her parents and two brothers, Claire and Howard. Kathryn passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Mount Ayr Healthcare Center.
Kathryn lived on the farm until the 3rd grade when her family moved into Winterset. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1945 where she was recognized as the Ideal Student.

At the age of 19, she married Boyd J. Chartrand in Winterset. To this union two boys were born, Kim Douglas and David Xen. Kathryn and Boyd later divorced. She attended Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines and later taught and trained at the school for four years. Kathryn owned and operated beauty salons in Winterset and Mount Ayr. She sold Avon for over 30 years. She loved her work and continued to work until she was 80 years old.

Kathryn was a member of the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, PEO, Rebekah Lodge and Businessmen's Club. One of her hobbies that she enjoyed very much was league bowling. Kathryn also loved to knit and crochet in her spare time.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd; two sons, Kim Chartrand and David Chartrand; two brothers, Claire and Howard.

Left to cherish her memory are four nephews, Dr. Randall (Sharon) Faust of Macomb, IL, John Faust of Utica, NY, Doug (Lori) Faust of Mankato, MN and Steve Faust of Des Moines; grand nephews, Michael (Kristin) Faust of Davis, CA and Jason Faust of New York, NY; grand niece, Angelyn (Christopher) Kind of New York, NY; great-grandnephews, John Faust of Davis, CA and William Faust of Davis, CA; two sisters in-law, Freeda Faust of Chariton and Kathy Faust of Mount Ayr.

One of the kindest women I''ve know. Beautiful inside and out. Remember her from the church nursery and her always singing the "new shoe" song. She was a jewel and now a Heavenly angel reunited with her family.

Kathryn was the first beautician who cut my hair so many years ago. She always had a smile for everyone. We were neighbors when they lived on Monroe Street.
