Joann Ardell (Akes) Green was born August 21, 1943 to Zelma Ardell (Oliver) Akes and Harold Keith Akes in her aunt's home at Shelby, Iowa. At the time of her birth, her father was in the process of being sent to Japan to serve in the US Army as a soldier in World War II. Many happy times were spent growing up at her grandparents' (M.L. & Myrtle Oliver's) farm south of Clarinda, Iowa. In her elementary school years, she attended Washington Central School at Keokuk, Iowa. She completed Junior High and High School on the Northwest Missouri State University campus (Horace Mann School) graduating in 1961.
Joann spent her entire lifetime as a farm wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, spending time in nature, and conversing with a few close friends and relatives. Joann was married to Dick Lee Green from Blockton, Iowa. To this union, 4 children were born: Martin (Marty) Lee, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann, Bonnie Estella, and Rhonda Kay.
Joann passed away on February 7, 2018. Survivors include her children Marty (Ronda) Green, Elizabeth Brand, Bonnie Randles, and Rhonda (Merle) Triggs; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; her father Harold (Ginnie) Akes and many relatives.

We are sorry to learn of Joann's death. She was very sweet. We look forward to seeing her alive again in the resurrection. Jesus promised, "Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life." My deepest condolences to the Green family. It has been almost three years since Joann's husband Dick passed away, she will be missed by everyone who knew her. I admired her dedication and love for her husband, she was always by his side. "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price [is] far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. " Proverbs 31:10-18 kjv
