Jerry Dale Ewalt passed away, surrounded by his family, on May 2, 2020 at his home east of Clearfield, Iowa.
Jerry was born December 11, 1940 at Rochester, Minnesota. He was raised by his parents, Millard & Marjorie (Wittwer) Ewalt along with siblings Jay, Annabelle, Kathleen, Dawnelle, and Nick. Jerry graduated from Clearfield High School with the class of 1958.
Jerry lived the next several years in Oklahoma where he worked in the oil fields. He married Patricia Ann Hamby on July 2, 1959 in Old Mexico. They renewed their vows on February 8, 1973 in Hooker, OK. They moved to Clearfield where Jerry would live and farm for the remainder of his life.
Jerry was a jokester and enjoyed playing pranks on people. He never knew a stranger and could quickly start a conversation. Jerry was always willing to help anyone in need but would be the last to ask for help. He loved and enjoyed his grandsons and great granddaughters. Tuesday night was ice cream night and he loved the time they spent together.
Jerry was community minded and was a 44 year member of the Clearfield Lions Club. He loved the Iowa State Fair and driving the shuttle buses.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Franki (Bill) Staton of Sheridan, MO; 2 grandsons Cody (Whitney) Staton of Bedford, IA and Jared (Kelsey Meyer) Staton of Maryville, MO; great grandchildren Isabelle Staton, Liza Campbell, and Jace Lamb; brother Jay Ewalt of Corpus Christi, TX; sisters Annabelle Colgon of Topeka, KS, Kathleen (Brad) Foster of Davenport, IA, and Dawnelle (Clint) Humbert of Cumberland, IA; special friend SuAnn Cook of Diagonal and her family Olivia & Gary Wackernagle and Iver & Catlin; other relatives and many good and true friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patricia; and brother Nick Powell.
Memorials are to the Clearfield Lions Club and EveryStep Hospice in Mount Ayr.
So sorry to hear of Jerry's death. He was quite a man. He was always so friendly when I worked at the hospital. Your family has my deepest sympathy, and will be in my thoughts and prayers.
