Jenesse "Jenny" Tull

Ava Jenesse (Jenny) Tull, 84, of Tingley, Iowa passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center. She was born on Dec 28, 1936, to Ava and Floyd Overholtzer in Tingley, Iowa.

Jenny was the wife of Howard Watson Tull, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. She was mother to Jimmy Lee Tull (Debbie Quick), Ava Joyce Frost (Doug Frost), and Jenelle Lynnae Sobotka (Jon Sobotka). She had 7 grandchildren Jessie Ann Haidsiak (Josh Haidsiak), James Howard “Toad” Tull (Jennifer Tull), Justin Alan Frost (Jessica Frost), Ava Jolene Frost (Josh Heidtman); Joseph Andrew Sobotka, Jamie Lynnae Graham (Chris Graham), Molly Murphy (Burt Murphy). She has 13 great grandchildren Shad, Jaci, and Alee Haidsiak, Ryan Parrott, Blake Butler, Sadie and Dawson Frost, Jaixen, Jaize and Jaiya Frost, Rowen and Holden Murphy. She recently added two great great grandchildren to the family: Knox Allen Parrot and Weston Lee Miller with one more on the way (Shad and Shelbie Haidsiak).

At 7 years old, Jenny was hit by a car walking home from school and was lucky to survive. Later she participated with the Tingley girls’ basketball team in two state tournaments – while she was in 8th and 10th grades – coached by the same driver of the car – Coach Obermeier.

In 1961, Howard and Jenny bought his Grandpa Baker’s farm in Diagonal where they raised their 3 children. As their family grew, they enjoyed many fun activities together, from watching grandchildren at sporting events, deer hunting and hunting wild hogs in Texas, and many vacations traveling from Costa Rico to Alaska and from coast to coast with friends and family throughout the years.

Jenny held several jobs in her life but spent many years in factories (first Purolator and then Bunn-O-Matic in Creston, Iowa.) There she made many friends – she stayed on part-time after retiring to continue her friendship connections.

Jenny devoted her life to volunteering and helping others. She was always active in the Tingley Methodist Church, participating and coordinating many events for the community and after school programs. She and Howard were long-standing contributors to the Tingley Lions Club and recruited many new members. Jenny and Howard also were dedicated EMS First Responders for nearly 20 years, providing emergency care to many in the Ringgold County community.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ava Overholtzer; parents-in-law Irene and Alvin Tull; siblings Arlene Overholtzer, Cleone Johnson Hosfield, John Overholtzer; brothers-in-law Dean Johnson, Kenny Hosfield, Von Tull, Ronnie Tull, and a great granddaughter Ava Jaibree Frost.

A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later.

Remembering Jenny with love. We stood in line together with Joyce to apply for a job at Bunn. We all were hired. She loved gooseberry pie but not mouse soup. Lol. Such a wonderful person 🥰
