Dr. Charles Manuel

Charles Edwin Manuel, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021, at the age of 70. His friends called him “Chuck”. Chuck died from cancer.

Chuck was born on February 27,1951 in Berkley, California to Don and Jean Manuel. He graduated from Graceland College with a Bachelor’s in Biology (1973), University of Puget Sound with a Masters in Ceramics (1976), and Palmer College of Chiropractic with a Doctor of Chiropractic (1979). One of his greatest joys was serving as a well-liked teacher of ceramics for 11 years at Graceland University. As a jack of all trades Chuck was always tinkering and creating, he could fix anything with duct tape, loved coming up with new ideas, and eager to learn everything about health and wellness. Chuck never stopped moving and, in his years, he constructed boats for the Iowa Cardboard Boat Regatta, founded Lamoni’s first chiropractic practice and gym, volunteered as a first responder, coach, team doctor, was an accomplished HS and College wrestler, acquired a black belt in Jan Fan Gung Fu, and won in his age bracket at the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in 2018.

An enthusiastic adventurer, Chuck was known for getting in his car and traveling wherever he was needed. He was an advocate for health and strived to help those in need. In his final days of need his family was very grateful for the return of kindness from so many previous patients and friends that helped keep his positive attitude thriving.

Chuck is survived by his mother, Jean Manuel and siblings Steve, Scott, Jennifer, and Shannon, and ex-wife MaryAnn, children, Kimberly, Christina, Garet, and Reed and grandchildren, Owen and William, Magnuson and Adelaide.

Memorial Service to be held at a later date. May God bless you and keep you.

Chuck was overly generous with his time and his knowledge. We could not count the lives he touched through the sharing of his knowledge and the path he walked . May he rest in peace.

Chuck was a listener, he encouraged so many of us. He always had positive words to share. He was a leader in the healing arts world. Chuck was an everyday hero who opened doors to us, he planted dreams which became goals for us healers, he touched hearts and changed lives forever!!!

Dr. Manuel was a special doctor that really cared for others, I met him when I was 18 years old, when my friend Candy brought me to him in the middle of the night to his office, I had fell inside a hollow tree trunk and hurt my back, he was getting ready to x-ray me when he got a call and had to go help deliver a baby, he left us there for a few hours and came back and finished x-raying me and then adjusted my back, trying to help me. I was amazed, this man delivers babies. After that he was my chiropractor. I also will never forget how I came to him one day in pain and my family and I were under a lot of stress having to leave our family farm and I burst out crying to him and his advice was Trish, you got to get your mind focused on God and only God, he has to be the center of everything and drew a picture of people and God and how he is the center and has to be the center. I will never forget that. I pray for comfort to his entire family and know that he was an amazing person.

Chuck was a very special and gifted man. My mom said he was the only one who could get her straightened out and take the hurt away. We are devastated by the loss of such a caring person. Hugs to friends and family

Dr. Manuel was a wonderful Doctor and was the first trainer I ever had. He was kind a man that showed empathy when he would feel the hurt of his Patient. You have been missed and is, and will be by many.

I went to Chuck's gym back in the day! So helpful always! Still today I tell my chiropractor about something Chuck helped with or told me to do back in the day! He was a neat guy. I moved to Des Moines many years ago, but never forgot him! Rest In Peace Chuck!
My deepest heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Chuck's family. 🙏✝️

Chuck showed up at my house when I was so sick and did everything he could to help get my feet under me again. He also helped heal my infant son from severe colic and helped him again years later when he had shingles. I didn't even know children could get shingles but Chuck knew exactly what to do. He was certainly a blessing to all who had the good fortune of knowing him.

My husband and I are so sad to hear of Dr. Manual's passing. He was our favorite chiropractor, when we moved to FL in 2006, we really missed him. Our youngest son wrestled the same time Garrett and Reed wrestled in high school. Chuck was always there to help if someone got injured. He will be greatly missed.
