Cathy Rose (Riggs) Mason was born December 20, 1951 to Marilyn Estelle (Palmer) and Carl Gordon Riggs in Bloomfield, Iowa. She attended Mount Ayr Schools and graduated in 1970. She later was a student at Grandview College.
Cathy married Leonard Mason in 1971 and had two children, Kelli D and Regan W. Cathy worked at the Tingley State Savings Bank in Tingley and various other banks for many years. She then had a second career as the office manager at Sun Valley Lake until her retirement in 2018.
On April 1, 2021 Cathy passed away at her home in Tingley. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Craig Riggs, sister-in-law Nancy Riggs, and nephew Clint Riggs.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Kelli Mason of Cedar Rapids, IA; son Regan (Lyndsi) Mason of Ft Collins, CO; beloved granddaughter Madison Maya of Fort Collins, CO; sister Carla (Bill) Bowlds of Loveland, CO; brother Curtis Riggs of Mount Ayr, IA; nieces Colette (Larry) Hunt of Kansas City, MO and children Ashton and Trey, Molly (Reid) Green of Laverne, OK and children Teegan, Tripp, and Tinsley, Carly Shaw of Loveland, CO and children Lexy and Dayja; extended family and wonderful friends.
Cathy loved being involved in her community. She was a member of the Tingley United Methodist Church and her passion was teaching the nursery and preschool Sunday School class. Every holiday all the kids would get special homemade crafts and bags full of candy and treats. Many homes around Tingley have a collection of “Cathy’s Creations”. She loved supporting the children by going to their ballgames, reading books to or with them, or simply just being there to listen to their stories. It is easy to imagine how great of a mom and grandma she was to her own. She was also active in the Tingley United Methodist Women, Tingley Lions Club, and served on the Tingley Halloween Committee for many years. She loved and looked forward to being part of the Halloween Celebration every year.
Cathy was an avid reader and she loved spending time with her grand pup Elway. She enjoyed watching The Andy Griffith Show and always looked forward to the girl’s state basketball tournament. It didn’t matter what the plan was, if it involved family and friends, Cathy knew she would always have a good time. She loved playing board games and cards and not many people realized how competitive she was until they played a game with her (even though she would never admit it). Her most precious moments were spending time with Madie, her only granddaughter who she loved so very much. She traveled to Colorado to visit every year and was always looking forward to the next trip. She also always loved when springtime arrived because that meant going with Mary Sue to get flowers.
Cathy will always be remembered for her kind soul, her scotcheroos, and her famous ham salad. She was a very respected woman in her community and will be missed by so many. She was proud of her legacy and it will live on through all the special people in her life.
A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided.

Cathy was so modest about her talents. She played with the bell choir, served as church and parish treasurer, helped with the after school program and taught Sunday school, besides working her PR office job. She loved her Tingley community. We shared laughter and tears on our many road trips. Hugs for her family.

I had the opportunity to work closely with Cathy for several years when she started her employment at SVILA. I remember her smile and her always pleasant manner. She will be missed but take comfort in knowing that she rests in the arms of our savior.

Kelli & Regan, our prayers are with you. I remember your mama with fondness because she always had a ready smile and usually some kind of treat.

Cathy had a heart of gold and we will miss her. The girls and I were just discussing today all the ceramics Cathy made for them over the years. I'm sure she will be watching over everyone.

From the first time I walked into the Sun Valley office, Cathys smile made my day better. Cathy was the best PR Sun Valley Lake ever had. Her smile and patient, kind voice made everyones day better, she will be missed.
