Robert "Bob" Schaefer

We will attempt to livestream the services from the cemetery.

The recording of the service will be added Wednesday afternoon below obituary.

Robert Vincent Schaefer was born February 29, 1928, in rural Adams County, Iowa, the fourth child of Harold William and Bernice Lewie Madison Schaefer. Bob attended country school in Ringgold County.

Bob was united in marriage to Betty Jean Carson on November 23, 1946, in Troy, Kansas. Two children were born to this union: Randall Eugene and Caryl Ann.

In the early years, Bob worked with his brother, Lowell, doing construction and hauling REA poles for the new power lines mainly in the western portion of Iowa. In the early 1950’s, Bob and Betty settled down to farm southeast of Diagonal and later moved to the current farm on “Highway 66” in 1964. Bob enjoyed farming where he raised corn and soybeans, but his #1 love was cattle of which he never could quite give up…still having a small herd to this day. He loved being outside, watching the Stephens boys farm his land and in later years, tootling around on his Ranger, checking the crops and just seeing what was going on in the neighborhood. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino.

Bob passed away on August 28, 2021, at the age of 93 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother; wife Betty in 2002 and son, Randy, in 2008; brother Lowell R. Schaefer and wife Maxine; sisters Thressa Willey and husband Don; and Darlene Ricker and husband Eldon; two half-siblings Lowell Schaefer and Shirley Braaten; and in-laws Robert Wallaker and Marie Schaefer.

Left to cherish the memories are his daughter Caryl Ann and husband Brian Fine; grandchildren Clint Fine, Rachel Honey and her husband Trent and Ryan Fine and his wife Sara; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob also had an extended family who also survive him: the “Minnesota Schaefer’s” which include Geraldine Wallaker, Norman “Bud” Schaefer, Dale and Janet Schaefer, Galen Schaefer, Barb and Eugene Gullickson, Bonnie and Harlan Hoakinson and Bob Braaten.

A memorial fund has been established for the Knowlton Cemetery.

Susan Im so very sorry for your loss .
Bob and Doug liked to visit at the Casino and tell about all the Bar fights they had . He was ornery and I think thats why he and Doug hit it off so well !!
Loved hearing tell about hitting his Sizzlers . Also about how his cattle were doing and I still remember when you said he would want to go check on them so you would drive him there . You were a good person to Bob He was lucky to have you in his life !
