Laura Lorene Triggs, 97, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Lorene was born in Conway, IA on March 6, 1922, to Harry and Bertha Stafford. She grew up on a farm near Gravity and graduated from Gravity High School in 1939.
On June 29, 1947, Lorene was united in marriage to Merritt Triggs at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr. To this union was born one child, a son, Allan Jay Triggs.
In the Fall of 1940, Lorene started teaching at a rural school north of Gravity. She went on to receive her teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State and taught Kindergarten or 3rd grade for the next 38 years in the Mount Ayr Community School District.
Lorene always had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church. She was involved in the P.E.O. Sisterhood and also enjoyed friendships through the Neighborhood Club.
Lorene was a kind and compassionate person who dearly loved her family and her community. She was very generous with her time and always put others first. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Triggs of Marion, IA; grandsons, Dr. John (Maria) Triggs and Dr. Andrew (Dr. Christine) Triggs; great granddaughter, Lillian Triggs, all of Milwaukee, WI; half-brother, Verne King of Clarinda, IA; honorary sons, Mike and Pete Christina of Omaha, NE; and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merritt; son, Allan; sister, Thelma McPherson; brothers-in-law, Alex McPherson and Marvin Triggs; sisters-in-law, Jennie King and nephew, Brian McPherson.
Memorials may be directed to the Every Step Hospice of Mount Ayr or First Christian Church in Mount Ayr.
