Ethel Louise Still, 94, of Mount Ayr, peacefully returned home to her Father in Heaven on July 2, 2019. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loved ones and friends who stopped by the Ringgold County Hospital and then Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Ethel was born on April 21, 1925 to Verne and Florence (Ferber) Knight. Awaiting her arrival was also her older sister, Leota.
On September 25, 1943, Ethel was united in marriage to George Wesley Still. Together they had 2 children: George LaVerne Still who passed away at birth, and Merrill Wesley Still.
George and Ethel lived and worked together on their farm west of Mount Ayr. Ethel worked as a cook at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr until her retirement in the mid 1990’s. She worked during the early part of the day and spent her afternoons and evenings perfecting her garden, flower beds, and home. She loved reading novels and would sit together with George in the evenings and read to him until he fell asleep. They loved their time together and did everything as a couple, even when it came to washing the dishes. They enjoyed entertaining and playing cards with their lifelong friends, and spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George passed away on her birthday, April 21, 2004. Ethel continued to live on their farm until the fall of 2017 when she became unable to care for herself any longer. She continued her life under the loving care of the staff at Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
